WHO warns Europe for a new wave of epidemics to propagate European Cup fans

According to foreign media reports, the World Health Organization (WHO) European Director Hans Kruger went out to watch the ball before the quarter-finals of the European Cup. He issued a new warning to European cup fans that if people decide to travel and gather, they must assess risks and ensure safety, wear masks indoors or in crowds, and protect themselves.

According to reports, on July 2nd and 3rd local time, the 2020 European Cup will usher in four knockout matches, which will be held in St. Petersburg, Munich, Baku and Rome. Thousands of fans were allowed to watch the game, a move that raised concerns about the spread of the new corona virus caused by crowds.

Hans Kruger said in a statement: “I’m not here to pour cold water on any European Cup fan or anyone’s holiday.” But he said that before everyone watched the game, they packed their luggage and went to a nearby or distant vacation. Before, he had to convey some information.

He emphasized that if people decide to travel and gather, they must assess risks and ensure safety, wear masks, and protect themselves, especially indoors or in crowds.

German Interior Minister Seehofer also recently criticized UEFA for allowing 40,000 fans to watch the England-German European Cup match held at Wembley Stadium on June 30.

Seehofer said, "I suspect this is again related to business, but business interests cannot be more important than protecting people from infection."

The recent rebound of the epidemic in Europe has aroused public concern. Kruger also said at a press conference that the 10% increase in new cases in Europe last week was mainly due to the increase in the frequency of crowd contact, the relaxation of travel, gathering and social restrictions.

He said that the epidemic is developing rapidly. What is worrying is not only the spread of the delta variant strain, but also that even with the efforts of member states, many people in the WHO European region have not yet been vaccinated. He said, "Unless we maintain discipline, the WHO European region will face a new wave of epidemics."
