Less than a week after becoming the Prime Minister following the decision of the Supreme Court, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has received a vote of confidence from the House of Representatives. There were 165 votes in favor of Deuba and only 83 against. 1 remained neutral.
In Sunday night's vote, Deuba received a vote of confidence from the House of Representatives. Speaker Agni Sapkota declared that Deuba had won the majority in the House of Representatives.
Prime Minister Deuba was voted in favor of Congress, including the UCPN (Maoist) Center, both the parties and the Rastriya Janamorcha. Similarly, UML MPs had voted against the proposal.
Some UML MPs from Madhav Nepal's side remained neutral while some UML leaders, including Madhav Nepal, voted for Deuba. KP Oli's MPs, including Press Ale and Kisan Shrestha, voted for Deuba.
Despite being betrayed by some leaders of the UML's Madhav group, Deuba was not expected to cast his vote.
After Deuba promised to fulfill the demands including the release of Resham Chaudhary, the Mahanta Thakur faction also gave a vote of confidence.
The one-seat RPP was neutral. The Rastriya Janamorcha had voted for Deuba while the NCP had voted against.
Now, with the vote of confidence, the Deuba government has been assured. With a total tenure of 17 months, this government has the responsibility to get the economy back on track, manage vaccinations, and hold local and general elections.
Answering questions in Parliament, Prime Minister Oli said that these problems would be solved and national unity would be maintained by cooperating with all.
